The market value of a football player is a reflection of his talent/skill and age. Neymar cost PSG €222m Transfer Release Clause in 2017. He also earned £515,000 per week after tax. Although Neymar Jr is older than he was in the 2017 transfer window, the recent eye-watering offer made by Al Hilal reveals what a valuable player he is still.

After his six successful years at Paris Saint-German, Neymar Jr becomes the latest talent to join the Saudi Pro League. The move to Al Hilal will see Neymar earn a considerable salary that could go up to a potential $400m total until 2025 based on add-ons & commercial deals.

Neymar Jr has achieved quite a lot of impressive feats in his career. He was a two-time La Liga champion with Barcelona, and now he leaves Paris Saint-Germain, a five-time Ligue 1 champion. 

Neymar Jr’s is already accustomed to world record transfers by now. Before 2017, no one ever thought a club could pay so much for a footballer, but in 2017, Neymar Jr transferred from Barcelona for a record fee of $263 million. 

The 31-year-old Brazilian had an excellent career at Barcelona. With Messi and Suarez, they won everything, including the La Liga title, the Champions League, the Copa Del Rey, the Super Cup, and several others. His sterling achievement made many wonder why he had to leave, but it was later revealed that Neymar Jr had to leave Barcelona because he wanted to pursue the Ballon d’Or from Paris. 

Things did not really go as planned for the Brazilian superstar, as he struggled with injuries throughout his career, including a devastating back injury playing for the Brazilian national team in a quarterfinal match against Colombia in 2014, but this has not stopped him from achieving great heights with the club.

In May 2021, he signed a contract that would have kept him at the club till 2025, but Neymar chose to leave before the expiration of his contract after he accepted Al Hilal’s mouth-watering offer. 

According to the Guardian, The 31-year-old joined Al-Hilal in a deal that could reach €100m (£86.3m). And the contract is for a minimum of two years. Fabrizio Romano, the trusted sports journalist, added that Neymar could earn $300 million and up to $400 million based on commercial deals with  Al Hilal.

Several PSG stars offered Neymar a heartfelt farewell after PSG quit

Neymar Jr has become the latest football talent to switch to the Saudi Pro League, and his move is considered the second biggest since Cristiano Ronaldo.  After a six-year stay at PSG, he tests new waters, leaving the legacy of 118 goals in 173 matches, and he won five Ligue 1 titles. In the confirmation of his exit, Neymar said; 

“I have achieved a lot in Europe and enjoyed special times, but I have always wanted to be a global player and test myself with new challenges and opportunities in new places.” 

“I want to write new sporting history, and the Saudi Pro League has tremendous energy and quality players at the moment. I have heard a lot and learned that I am following a long list of Brazilian players who have played in Saudi Arabia over the years, so it is the desired place.

The PSG chief executive, Nasser Al-Khelaifi, confirming Neymar’s exit, said on the club’s official website: “It is always difficult to say goodbye to an amazing player like Neymar, one of the best players in the world.”

In Marquinhos’ emotional farewell, he says, “A brother, partner and club-mate… it’s been a few long years sharing a locker room, so many moments I will always take with me! Thank you, my little brother, good luck on your new journey. I learned a lot by your side! I love you, mlk always stay strong.” Nuno Mendes joins the farewell party by saying: “It was a pleasure playing with you. Good luck.”
