What is PFL’s new Bellator Champions Series? Complete details on recent expansion move

The Bellator Champions Series is about to kick off as the Professional Fighter League comes with the fight card and date of the event. This will be the first official Bellator event of 2024 that will soon hit the combat sports fans’ TV screens.

Following the announcement of a collaborative bout between Bellator Champions and PFL Champions, the next event will be officially named the Bellator Champions Series. PFL, after acquiring Bellator, has shown a keen interest in making unexpected bouts which viewers can anticipate in this exciting series.

PFL introduces the new Bellator Champions Series: What is it?

PFL is laying out its 2024 plans after acquiring Bellator in the last quarter of 2023. Rather than merging the companies, they’ve opted to run both promotions separately. Now that the event on February 24 is about to kick off, this Bellator Champions Series has a less than 1-month gap, showing what the exact plan of the professional fighter league is. Bellator has released a trailer announcing the event date and the fights that are going to take place in the co-main event and main event.

On their Twitter handle, Bellator released a trailer announcing that former UFC fighter Corey Anderson would be taking on Karl Moore for the vacant light heavyweight title. And the co-main event will be between Bellator’s own Leah McCourt and Sinead Kavanagh. This female bout will take place in the women’s featherweight division.

For the clarification of fans, rumored fighter Cris Cyborg will not feature in the Bellator Champions Series. The date for the event announced is March 22, 2024.

Belfast will host the first of eight Bellator Champions Series events

To witness the live action, MMA fans can book their tickets for Belfast, as the event is announced to be taking place in the capital of Northern Ireland. The Bellator Champions Series still has more fights to announce for the undercards. PFL CEO Peter Murray made a big announcement about the global franchise’s plan for 2024, where the first event will kick off in Belfast itself.

According to PRNewswire, Peter Murray said “The Bellator Champions Series will feature reigning Bellator Champion fighters defending their titles against the best fighters in the world from the start studded Bellator roster.”

Murray also announced DAZN as the partner responsible for distributing innovative MMA formats to fans. According to the CEO, DAZN will handle all fight arrangements for this Bellator Champions Series.

The organization of new events has already hinted that PFL will, at some point this year, aim to rival the publicity of the UFC. Fans had already speculated that PFL would pose a challenge to the other promotion, especially after Francis Ngannou signed a deal with them last year.

What are your thoughts on PFL’s announcement of the “Bellator Champions Series”? Are the announced cards good enough to capture the attention of global MMA viewers?
