Their performances were high-flying under new manager Ange Postecolgou, who had introduced a new style of play – the forward pressing time, to the team. As a matter of fact, a few weeks ago, the North London club sat at the top of the Premier League table.
Tottenham Hotspur went on a 10-game unbeaten run, beating the likes of Manchester United and Liverpool. However, since their heavy 4-1 defeat to Chelsea a month ago, Ange’s men have lost three more, failing to land a win in their last five games, with their only draw coming against City a few days ago.
Tottenham becomes the first team to lose five consecutive games after taking lead
Tottenham’s season has hit a snag after a bright start to the campaign. The North London club won eight of their opening 10 games in the Premier League, making them early-season contenders, despite losing Harry Kane to Bayern Munich in the summer.
However, the club has now failed to register a win in each of the last five games, with Postecoglou’s men only taking a point from the 3-3 draw against Manchester City a few days ago.
Tottenham Hotspur suffered another loss to West Ham yesterday to claim an unwanted record in the league. With this 2-1 loss, Tottenham became the first team in the Premier League to fail to register a win in five consecutive games despite going 1-0 up in each of those matches.
They also became the first side to lose three consecutive home matches despite taking the lead. The recent loss now leaves Tottenham Hotspur languishing in sixth position in the Premier League table, level on points with Manchester United but with a superior goal difference.
West Ham stuns Tottenham with a comeback win
Tottenham Hotspur have suffered from a one-way approach that sees them play a high line, which mostly comes back to hunt them.
They got away with it in their opening 10 games of the Premier League season, but this new style is now catching up to them, especially when they’re playing a team that can do a lot of damage on the counter.
The team suffered another defeat yesterday despite taking an early lead through Cristian Romero. The Argentine rose the highest to head home from a corner in the 11th minute to give Tottenham the lead. It looked like it was going to be a comfortable win for the North London giants, who kept 75% of the total possession.
However, West Ham’s attack against the run of play gave Jarrod Bowen the chance to level the scoreline in the 52nd minute. West Ham stole the winner in the 74th minute when Destiny Udogie’s back-pass to his goalkeeper proved too short. New signing Ward-Prowse quickly pounced on the loose ball to shoot into the post before scoring the rebound to hand West Ham the win.
Postecoglou will now look to pick his team up amid inconsistent performances and injury problems.
