What’s next for Anthony Joshua after dominating victory vs Otto Wallin?

Anthony Joshua, the former unified boxing champion, has been on a tear since he lost his championship belts to the undefeated Oleksandr Usyk. Joshua recently headlined the boxing event in Saudi Arabia billed as ‘Day of Reckoning’ against Otto Walin, a Swedish professional boxer.

Joshua won the bout as Otta Walin’s corner threw in the towel after round 5 of their scheduled 12-round bout. With the victory, the door is open for Joshua to contend for all four heavyweight titles in 2024 as they will all be on the line as Usyk faces off with Tyson Fury in February 2024.

What is Anthony Joshua’s next move?

Anthony Joshua’s win over Otto Walin has put up in a nice position to contend for the title, particularly after Joseph Parker upset former WBC champion Deontay Wilder in the co-main event of ‘Day of Reckoning’. Joshua expects great things ahead for him in 2024 as he spoke about in the post-fight press conference of the event.

Joshua had high hopes for the fight between Usyk and Fury in February of 2024. “I’m leaning towards Usyk, but who knows? They’re both at the top of their game. I wish them well. I hope they have a great training camp”, Joshua said of the fight and predicted a victory for Usyk, the man who defeated him twice.

“Once that fight’s out of the way, the heavyweight division opens up again, and all of us can start leading towards becoming champions.”, Joshua said of the title ramifications after the fight particularly for him, who is on a win-streak. It needs to be noted that after the win over Joshua’s promoter, Eddie Hearn wanted a matchup between Fury and Joshua.

Nevertheless, Joshua will be waiting in the wings to face the winner of Usyk vs Fury. Tyson Fury recently fought Francis Ngannou in a crossover boxing bout in Saudi Arabia billed as ‘The Battle of the Baddest’. Ngannous surprised many in the fight and only lost via controversial split decision. Usyk, on the other hand, is coming off a controversial victory over Daniel Dubois, who defeated Jarrell Miller at ‘Day of Reckoning’.

Anthony Joshua celebrates Otto Wallin win with McGregor and Cristiano

‘Day of Reckoning’ was arguably the biggest boxing card ever in the history of boxing. In addition to having Anthony Joshua and Deontay Wilder in the main and co-main event respectively, Dmitry Bivol, Daniel Dubois, Jarrell Miller, Agit Kabayel, Jai Opetaia, Filip Hrgović, and Frank Sánchez were also on the card.

Moreover, big names like Conor McGregor, Cristiano Ronaldo, Israel Adesanya, Chris Eubanks Jr., and Amir Khan among others were in attendance at the event. McGregor was even interviewed at the event where he went on a rant about wanting to fight Manny Pacquiao. It has even made Michael Chandler, his presumed opponent, angle for a fight with Nate Diaz.

Anthony Joshua, after the TKO victory, fist-bumped with McGregor and Ronaldo, who were present ringside for the event. McGregor had an animated reaction to the fights throughout the event whereas Ronaldo was seemingly looking uncomfortable with the former two-division UFC champion.

Nevertheless, the event did not have the massive celebrity attendance of ‘The Battle of the Baddest‘ which had names from combat sports, politics, and the music industry at the event. With the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia aiming for many more fights in 2024, Riyadh plans to become the unofficial boxing capital of the world.
