When is Reece James going to be back on the field for Chelsea?

Chelsea managed to bounce back following successive league upsets with a 2-0 victory against Sheffield United last weekend at Stamford Bridge. Subsequently, in an action-packed outing in the EFL Cup 2023, they secured a place in the semi-final of the domestic competition, courtesy of Mykhailo Mudryk’s heroics.

Unfortunately for the Blues, their skipper Reece James was absent from the club’s most significant success in recent times. The English international full-back suffered yet another setback as his hamstring problem thwarted his recovery and brought him back into the squad.

Reece James had a successful hamstring surgery

A week ago, during Chelsea’s league encounter against Everton, James started in his right-back position, marking his fifth appearance for the Blues this season. In the early half, in the 24th minute, he felt discomfort in his thighs, signaling Mauricio Pochettino for an early substitution in the 27th minute.

The club confirmed the injury following a medical assessment at the club’s facility. Later, reports revealed that he would undergo surgery in Finland. The decision was made in consideration of discussions with the player and staff, as it was deemed the most feasible option given his injury-prone condition.

Reece James shared an update on his Instagram after successful surgery, posting a picture of himself giving a thumbs up. Alongside the image, he penned down a note, highlighting the difficulties he faced and the negativity he had received during this challenging time.

He wrote, “The footballing world knew I got injured, but the procedure I would go down this time took slightly longer to figure out the best solution. I had surgery today to try to fix my recurring hamstring issue, and the recovery has started, both physically and mentally.”

He added further, “Since this injury, I’ve had a good amount of support but significantly more hate and negativity. Believe me, I don’t wanna be injured; I’m happiest when I’m playing football. Thanks to the understanding people who support me despite the highs and the lows; it goes a long way. Stay well, Reece.”

When is Reece James’ possible return date?

Chelsea, currently twelfth in the Premier League standings, breathed a sigh of relief as they welcomed back their captain, Reece James. He had recovered from a hamstring injury sustained in the season opener against Liverpool, making a steady return to the pitch. Unfortunately, he was once again afflicted by the same issue.

Earlier reports suggested that Reece James would be sidelined until February or March. However, with surgery, the treatment could be prolonged, stretching the expected recovery time to a minimum of four months for him to fully regain fitness.

The English defender had previously missed the Qatar World Cup due to a knee injury. Now, his chances of representing his national team in another major international competition are diminished, indicating that he might miss Euro 2024 in Germany.
