Where is Sergio Brown? Ex-NFL safety goes missing, mother found dead in Maywood

After playing high school football at Proviso East and later college football at Notre Dame, Sergio Brown was able to enlist in national-level football. However, his NFL career lasted for nearly six seasons with four different teams between 2010 and 2016.

The former NFL safety has once again captured headlines after a long absence, but this time a sad narrative involving Brown and his elderly mother is emerging, leading the NFL community to ask for prayers for them.

Where is Sergio Brown?

The former NFL safety disappeared on August 25, 2023, according to sources. At that time, the 35-year-old and his mother were scheduled to leave their home to travel to Mississippi for a family reunion. However, he never showed up at the specified spot and was also in breach of contract, which worried his family.

They went missing late Saturday night in the western Chicago suburb of Maywood, Illinois. In an effort to locate him and his mother, Brown’s family members posted a message on Facebook with their photo. Additionally, his family approached the Maywood and Melrose Park police departments for help in locating him.

Sergio Brown’s condition—whether he is alive or not—has not yet been updated. As an undrafted free agent, Sergio landed with the New England Patriots in 2010. He was originally unable to make the 53-man roster, but in October of that year, he made his debut.

Sergio signed with the Atlanta Falcons, Jacksonville Jaguars, Indianapolis Colts, and Buffalo Bills after being released by the Patriots in 2012.

What happened to his mother?

Concern increased after Brown’s mother, Myrtle Brown, was discovered dead. On Saturday afternoon, Myrtle’s body was found in Addison Creek close to her Maywood home. The body of the 73-year-old was handed over to the Cook County Medical Examiner’s Office.

As of late Saturday afternoon, Addison Creek was being searched, and the neighboring suburbs were being investigated by Maywood police and other suburban agencies. The Maywood Police Department is asking anybody with information to call the anonymous tip line at (708) 450-1787.

Sergio Brown is the subject of our fervent prayers, and we hope he will be discovered to be in perfect health and unharmed.
