Jose Mourinho, renowned for his strict managerial style, had a notable encounter with Eva Carneiro, a member of the Chelsea medical team during his tenure as Chelsea’s manager, creating a strained relationship between them back in 2015.
However, Eva Carneiro has gone on to improve her life positively since then with her notable involvement in the 2022 World Cup and proudly acquiring holdings at Lewes FC, a club in the Isthmian.
Carneiro takes the helm at Lewes FC in Isthmian League
Eight years ago, Eva Carneiro was involved in a dispute with Jose Mourinho during her tenure as the physiotherapist for Chelsea. Following the incident, she parted ways with the club and later received damages for her dismissal through legal proceedings.
As soon as she found redress at the tribunal, she immediately began working as a private consultant at the Sports Medical Group in London. Things drastically changed positively for her.
Currently, Eva Carneiro has found fortune again as she is experiencing success in football once more, taking on the role of an investor in the non-league team Lewes FC. Additionally, she contributed to the Aspetar Orthopaedic and Sports Medicine Hospital in Qatar in preparation for the World Cup held last year. Her involvement in the World Cup marked a significant turnaround in her career.
Jose Mourinho and Eva Carneiro’s feud
Eva Carneiro worked with Chelsea’s medical team while Jose Mourinho was Chelsea manager, and it is safe to say that they did not part on relatively good terms.
Indeed, in 2015, a notable incident occurred when Eva Carneiro, along with chief physio Jon Fearn, entered the pitch to attend to an injured Eden Hazard during a Premier League match between Chelsea and Swansea. This action led to a public disagreement with then Chelsea manager Jose Mourinho.
Jose Mourinho, who was Chelsea’s manager at the time, was angered by the interruption in injury time, especially as Chelsea was pushing for a late victory in that match. He believed that this interruption contributed negatively to their intended fortune in this game, hence he said:
“I wasn’t happy with my medical staff because even if you are a medical doctor or secretary on the bench, you have to understand the game.”
Eva Carneiro left her position at Chelsea six weeks after the incident, during which she was banished by the club and prohibited from attending training sessions or matches. She subsequently took legal action against the club, alleging constructive dismissal. In 2016, Carneiro and Chelsea reached a settlement, with the club agreeing to pay damages for her dismissal.
Upon the conclusion of the tribunal in her favour, she spoke to the press, saying:
“I am relieved that today we have been able to conclude this tribunal case, It has been an extremely difficult and distressing time for me and my family and I now look forward to moving forward with my life.”
