The Houston Texans were one of the NFL clubs that started a game with a rookie player they selected as the fourth overall choice in the 2023 NFL draft. This rookie sensation has already left an indelible mark on the NFL, securing a place in football history through a spectacular display of talent and poise.
After setting numerous impressive records, Stroud’s journey is on the cusp of reaching even greater heights as he approaches the verge of breaking yet another NFL record in his rookie season.
Which NFL record could rookie C.J. Stroud break this year?
The quarterback for Ohio State has accumulated 1,461 yards, seven touchdowns, and zero interceptions through five games of the season. Prior to facing the Falcons, he had amassed 1,212 yards this season, enough for fourth in the NFL.
He made headlines by breaking and setting numerous records during his first season. The young quarterback is now on the cusp of achieving a significant milestone, which would solidify his status as a generational talent. Kyler Murray, of the Arizona Cardinals, holds the all-time NFL record with 211 consecutive interception-free attempts as a rookie.
With 186 straight passes without throwing one, C.J. Stroud is close to the limit of 25 by number. He therefore needs 26 more to surpass Murray and set a new record in his first season.
Does C.J. Stroud have any other records in the NFL?
The Texans’ rookie quarterback C.J. Stroud set a record for the most straight pass attempts to begin a career without throwing an interception during Sunday’s 21-19 loss to the Atlanta Falcons. Dak Prescott of the Dallas Cowboys set a rookie record by completing 176 passes without being intercepted.
Early in the third quarter, Stroud completed the necessary 177 passes while playing against the Falcons. Before this, on his 26th attempt of the game, Stroud set an NFL record by completing 14 of 22 throws for 173 yards in the first half.
He completed 20 of 35 passes for 249 yards and one score, his seventh TD throw of the year, to end the game after surpassing the record. He reportedly started last week’s game with an average of 300 yards and no interceptions, joining Peyton Manning, Tom Brady, Drew Brees, Patrick Mahomes, and Aaron Rodgers in the elite group.
The football community is now eagerly awaiting Stroud’s next game to see if he will once again leave his mark on history. Do you think he can surpass Murray as well and set another record?
