Mason Greenwood had probably thought that his career was over a year ago. After facing domestic abuse allegations, the young striker was forced to be dropped from the Manchester United and England squads. It seemed that such a promising young striker’s career had fallen from such heights.
But this season, he made a comeback to the sport by going out on loan to Spanish club Getafe. He has gained back his confidence and is again playing to his best. And it seems that his career turnaround is about to become even better.
Valencia and Real Sociedad set sights on Mason Greenwood
Mason Greenwood has had a great start to life at his new club, Getafe. The fans have shown him much love since his arrival and he has been praised by all for his hard work and performances. He has already scored four goals and provided three assists in the 11 games he has played.
Greenwood was previously suspended by Manchester United as he was being investigated for domestic abuse allegations. While those have been solved now, he was still not reinstated into the squad. It was deemed that an internal investigation will be done by the club, after which whether he will come back to the club or not will be decided. In the meantime, he was allowed to join Getafe on loan to keep himself in top form.
The Sun has reported that Greenwood won’t come back to the club and that after his loan deal at Getafe expires, he will be sold. They have also reported that two clubs are interested in buying the player, and they are from Spain as well. The clubs are Real Sociedad and Valencia who are currently monitoring the player through scouts. Sociedad play Champions League soccer currently and play attractive soccer as well. Valencia have fallen off in recent years but would still be an upgrade over Getafe.
How long is Mason Greenwood’s Manchester United contract?
Mason Greenwood has a long contract until June 2025, a long contract as he was one of the best young prospects of the club. He was only loaned to Getafe on transfer deadline day, as there was still uncertainty regarding his future.
But now that clubs are interested in him, United may finally part ways with him. The academy graduate had made his debut in 2019 and has since established himself as a top player. He still has much support from his former teammates. Due to his now ruined reputation in England, United will be forced to let him leave for a small transfer fee. United are also desperate to generate funds as soon as possible to help balance their books.
A fee of âŹ20 to 25 million may be most possible, considering the situation involving the player. More clubs can yet register interest in him, which will allow more leverage for United to increase their price.
For now, Mason Greenwood will concentrate on his next game with Getafe in La Liga against Las Palmas on Saturday.
