Luis Rubiales’s mother is devastated by the harsh criticisms and administrative penalty meted out against her son following Rubiales’s inappropriate kissing and grabbing of Jenni Hermoso on the World Cup podium. Other family members also believe that the ‘crackdown’ on their relative, Luis Rubiales is excessive and ‘inhumane’, considering that it was only an honest ‘mistake.’
Angeles Bejar, Luis Rubiales’s mother, had embarked on an extreme demonstration against her son’s ‘inhumane’ treatment.
Luis Rubiales’s mother locks herself in church
The ‘kiss gate’ saga involving Luis Rubiales and Jenni Hermoso has Inflicted devasting consequences on Rubiales himself and his family. His family, including Luis Rubiales’s mother Angeles, believes that what happened was an honest mistake that was never intended to cause any harm to Jenni Hermoso.
Even Jennifer Hermoso, the highest goal scorer on the Spanish Women’s National team and the supposed victim in this situation, believes Rubiales’ intentions were not to harass her. However, she stated emphatically that she did ‘not like it.’
However, several Spanish groups and political groups’ personalities believe that such action or mistake, as the case may be, should never be excused. Rubiales has come under heavy criticism from personalities like Pedro Sanchez, the acting Spanish Prime Minister, who said, “It shows that in our country, there’s a long way to go in terms of equality and respect between men and women; what we saw was an unacceptable gesture.”
The Spanish Association for Women in Professional Sports (AMDP) also criticised Rubiales for a “lack of decorum, irresponsibility and indecency.”
In response to the pictorial pieces of evidence depicting the ‘inappropriate’ act and several backlash levelled by respective sects in Spain, FIFA suspended Luis Rubiales.
Luis Rubiales mother, Vanesa Ruiz Bejar, has been apparently devasted by a ‘crackdown’ on her son. She believes that all of the harsh criticisms and penalties are ‘inhumane’ as his son did not intend the hurt and harassment that several groups and individuals have postulated.
Speaking to MailOnline, Rubiales‘ cousin Vanessa Ruiz Bejar explained Luis Rubiales mother’s situation saying, “We have spoken to her (Angeles), and she is crying all the time and praying, asking for God’s help,’ she said. ‘The family is unfortunate because things have been taken out of context.”
“It was a World Cup, maybe a couple of things, a gesture he made might have been out of place, but we are talking about something historic, a moment of maximum joy.”
Spanish FA calls for RFEF suspension
The punishments meted against Luis Rubiales after kissing and grabbing Jenni Hermoso on the World Cup podium seem excessive and unnecessary. Jennifer Hermoso, the supposed victim in this matter, has said nothing other than “I did not like it” but “we have a great relationship.” There is no complaint to be pursued by Spanish prosecutors, yet there are demonstrations on the streets of Spain, emphasizing that Rubiales harassed Hermoso.
FIFA has already suspended Luis Rubiales, but it does not stop there; according to Dailymail, a meeting of the Commission of Presidents of Regional and Territorial Federations of the RFEF, was held to the effect of the suspension of the FA president, Luis Rubiales. It was agreed in the meeting that;
“After the latest events and the unacceptable behaviours that have seriously damaged the image of Spanish football, the presidents request that Mr. Luis Rubiales immediately present his resignation as president of the RFEF.” Prosecutors in Spain have also launched a preliminary investigation into the matter to see that justice is served.”
It is clear why Luis Rubiales’s mother would lock herself up in the church hall on a hunger strike, crying for leniency in what she believes to be an ‘inhumane’ clampdown on her son.
