Aston Martin was recently seen sporting their ambassador, Jessica Hawkins, in their 2021 Formula 1 car setup, the AMR21. A lot of fans and people new to F1 must be speculating about Jessica and why she is even driving an Aston Martin’s car.
Look no further, as we shall tell you about this old yet unfamiliar face in Aston Martin’s garage. Jessica Hawkins is often featured on their Instagram posts and she visits the team’s races every weekend. She is the driver ambassador for the Aston Martin Cognizant Formula 1 team.
Jessica Hawkins makes history by taking the wheel of Aston Martin
Jessica Hawkins has often been featured on the page of the Aston Martin F1 and is a prominent figure in the team as she works for the team every weekend. She joined the team in 2021, when they first became a part of Formula 1, having been rebranded by Lawrence Stroll.
Earlier, during Budapest Test Week, she drove the 2-year-old AMR 21, alongside reserve driver Felipe Drugovich, making her the only woman to do so after 2018. She took over the wheels of the AMR21 and drove laps around the Hungaroring test track. Her lap times and other details are still not public.
She later revealed her feelings about her lifelong goal: “Getting to drive the AMR21 has been a dream come true for me and one I have been ready to fulfill for a long time.”
She wanted other women to learn from this and make efforts to pursue their passions.
Aston Martin aims for a more aero efficient F1 car in 2024
Fernando Alonso had an explosive start to the season and he started racking up podium finishes almost consistently. At one point, people were believing that Alonso would finally win a race again with the improved AMR23. However, his performance seems to have reached a saturation point, with the car struggling in race pace again.
The performance director of the team, Tom McCullough, was addressing this issue and he explained about the oncoming upgrades and fixes to the car.
“It is an area where at the start of the year we were definitely one of the slower cars in the straight line.
“We worked on that with the base car, and also the rear wing levels that we brought [to Monza]. It’s an area of improvement, and it is an area we need to improve more for next year, that’s clear.”
He doesn’t think any more improvements that are noticeably fast can be introduced to the car. Thus, he has directed the team’s focus towards AMR24. A car made according to the inputs of their famous driver, Fernando Alonso
“Our focus is really on AMR24, to make sure that as we’re developing that car we are developing as efficiently as we can do, and more efficiently than this year’s car.”
