Who is Blake Proehl leaving Katy Perry in tears with “American Idol” performance?

The current NFL season might have come to an end with a tantalizing Super Bowl between the Kansas City Chiefs and the San Francisco 49ers; however, the American Idol season has just begun and people from around the country are looking for their opportunity to wow the judges and rise to national fame.

Among the aspiring stars is a certain Blake Proehl, who has amused Katy Perry with his vocal range and has won the hearts of many sitting at home and watching. However, Blake also has a sporting past, which many in the NFL community might not be aware of. Let’s find out more.

Who is Blake Proehl?

Blake Preohl is a 24-year-old man from Charlotte, North Carolina, who liked singing from a young age. However, his exceptional sporting prowess and natural pace led him down a different career path, which saw him sign for the Minnesota Vikings as a Wide Receiver, following in the footsteps of his father, who graced the league for 17 long years.

Proehl shot to fame once again after his soulful rendition of the song “In Case You Didn’t Know,” which moved judges Katy Perry and Lionel Ritchie to tears. In fact, according to TMZ, after the performance, Katy Perry came up to Proehl to take his autograph, a testament to his brilliant voice.

Why did Blake switch from NFL to singing?

In a chat with the judges after his performance, Blake Proehl also mentioned how his short-lived career with the Minnesota Vikings ended. He shared how he encountered a devastating leg injury right after being picked up in the 2021 NFL draft that left him in an unplayable state for much of his rookie season.

In a photo that he shared from that time, he attached the caption, “Sometimes God allows things to happen in your life because you were built to withstand the storm. I have put everything I have into this game. Every ounce of love and passion has been poured into my craft and my goals, but I understand that there are times like these that shine brighter for his greater purpose,”

He continued, “Every day I get to work with such amazing people in the training room while learning from the best of the best on the field. To say I’m thankful is an understatement. For anyone struggling… find those small victories and keep fighting.”
