Liverpool’s search for a new manager has been on from a long time, ever since Jurgen Klopp announced he will be leaving. There is now a surprising name in the newspapers and that is of Dutch manager Arne Slot. He is now the favorite to join the Reds this summer when Klopp finally leaves after 8 years in charge.
The board has yet to definitely choose a manager, as they are carefully choosing who will inherit Klopp’s seat. For many days, it was Bayer Leverkusen’s Xabi Alonso, but the Spaniard has chosen to stay at the German club. The name of Sporting CP manager Ruben Amorim has also been very mentioned, but even he is expected to not move to England despite being said to reach verbal agreements previously.
Arne Slot is now the name on everyone’s mouth, though many don’t know. The Dutchman has worked wonders for Eredivisie club Feyenoord and has helped them break Ajax’s dominance of the league in recent years.
Slot has been compared to the likes of Johan Cruyff and Pep Guardiola before, and was linked to join Tottenham previously. According to Fabrizio Romano, the 45 year old is now said to be meeting up with representatives from Liverpool who are trying to convince him of the project. If the Reds meet his demands, he could very well become the new Liverpool boss next season.
Arne Slot’s managerial career
Arne Slot began his managerial career for PEC Zwolle in 2013, but later became assistant manager at SC Cambuur. He later became the manager of AZ Alkmaar and almost won them the Eredivisie title in 2020. He was appointed as Feyenoord manager in 2021, and has been on the rise ever since.
In his first season, he made the team play some attractive soccer and took them to third place in the league. Additionally, they were in the Europa Conference League final, which they lost to Jose Mourinho’s Roma. The next season saw them lose key players, and yet Slot managed to win the league for them, which was their first since 2017. They played Champions League soccer this season and even won the KNVB Cup, though his side is set to lose the league title to PSV.
Arne Slot will next prepare his team for their next game against the Go Ahead Eagles on Friday, and Liverpool will be very interested in watching his side play.
