The competitive landscape of the NFL witnesses many promising players being selected in the draft. Heading into professional football is like a dream for every player in school and college. These young stars leave no stone unturned to make their spot in the league.
One such promising high school football star is Jeremiah Smith, who has hit the headlines several times by showcasing an elite-level performance on the field. The footballer has been creating a storm in the football world, and Los Angeles Lakers star LeBron James couldn’t help but be swayed by the trend as well.
Who is Jeremiah Smith?
Smith, a five-star wide receiver, is one of three players in the spot to get committed to Ohio State’s 2024 recruiting class, along with five-star Mylan Graham as well as four-star Jeremiah McClellan. Though he has been committed to the team since Dec. 14, he made college visits to Georgia and Florida State.
The Florida native has been ranked as the No. 1 player as well as the No. 1 WR in the 2024 class by 247Sports’ composite rankings, per Dispatch. He was ranked the nation’s No. 1 prospect in the 2024 cycle by the On3 Industry Ranking as well, which is based on “a weighted average that utilizes all four major recruiting media companies”.
Apart from the recognition on the field, the young star is the cousin of Seattle Seahawks quarterback Geno Smith, who sustained injury days ago.
LeBron James excited to watch Jeremiah Smith
King James has been dominating the basketball court with his charismatic leadership and phenomenal athleticism. However, he doesn’t keep detached from the NFL world as well, and even school football players like Smith also didn’t go unnoticed by him.
The NBA legend quoted a two-and-a-half-minute highlight video of Smith of the wide receiver and wrote he is excited to see his growth as an Ohio State Buckeyes player on the field.
“Can’t wait to see him in Scarlet & Gray”, he wrote.
Having a shout out from an iconic player is obviously a great feat for the young star, and he didn’t forget to acknowledge the recognition as well on Monday.
LeBron James’ praise came following a series of stellar performances from Smith. The receiver turned heads as a junior by recording 1,098 yards along with 20 touchdowns in only 14 games. He continued moonlighting as a hero on the field in his senior year as well and recorded 1,083 yards along with 16 touchdowns in only 11 games for Chaminade-Madonna College Preparatory School.
