The “Quarterback” documentary series’ launch raised concerns about the show’s genre at first. However, the first season of the show was a big hit among viewers and consequently, the production company has vowed to bring out another season in which former NFL player Johnny Manziel is expected to be a part.
The first redshirt freshman to win the Heisman Trophy could reveal some of the drama that occurred during his time playing in the NFL which was previously undisclosed.
Who is Johnny Manziel?
Manziel walked into the NFL field as a professional footballer upon finishing a stellar college career after being selected by the Cleveland Browns with the 22nd overall pick in the 2014 NFL Draft. Unfortunately, he was only able to play in the league for two seasons recording 147 258 attempts for 1,675 yards and 7 touchdowns.
His career with the Browns was subjected to a number of off-field concerns, including substance misuse, drinking, and partying issues. Later, in March 2016, the Brown team severed connections with him following his four-game NFL suspension. The 30-year-old still seems to feel intense sadness when thinking back on the self-inflicted end to his NFL career.
“I had an ample amount of opportunities to put my career on a different path, and for whatever reason it was, whether it was me being young or just not seeing life through the right lens at that point in time, I squandered a good opportunity,” he said.
“The more I look back on my life and continue to reflect and try to bury some things and put some things in the past, that’s one thing that I decided to do, was to let [football] go and let that be what it is. Life goes the way it goes sometimes,” he added,
Johnny Manziel set to appear on Netflix documentary “Untold”
Nicknamed ‘Johnny Football’, the former player has now become a subject of discussion again nearly after a decade of smashing his career, as he is slated to star in the “Quarterback” series. The 111-minute film, which is set to have its premiere on August 8, should give viewers a taste of Johnny’s ups and downs as a player.
The show is based on his swift rise in college football, winning the Heisman Trophy, mind-blowing settlement with the Browns, and the tragic ending to his career.
The teaser includes additional sound clips that heavily feature the former player’s open admission of the peculiar motivations driving his life, including his efforts to commit suicide with a gun, which fortunately failed when he squeezed the trigger.
“I had planned to do everything I wanted to do at that point in my life, spend as much money as I possibly could, and then my plan was to take my life. I wanted to get as bad as humanly possible to where it made sense, and it made it seem like an excuse and an out for me,” he told in the documentary.
Throughout his NFL career, Johnny saw both a quick ascent and a swift descent. His stories could serve as a lesson for generations to come!
