The Philadelphia Eagles are boosting their confidence after losing their unbeaten title to the New York Jets in week 6. The Eagles have faced comparatively weak teams till now, but their upcoming contests are against the mighty squads of the NFL who are already vying intensely for a possible Super Bowl journey.
On Sunday Night Football in Week 7, Philly is going to face the mighty Miami Dolphins who boast of the NFL’s most potent offense, ranking first in total attacks, passing, and rushing. To give the Dolphins’ offense a nightmare, the Eagles are trying to prepare their defense to the next level, and keeping that goal in mind, they signed former Pittsburgh Steelers star Josiah Scott ahead of week 7.
Who is Josiah Scott?
Scott, an NFL cornerback, started his professional football career after getting selected by the Jacksonville Jaguars with the No.137th overall pick in the fourth round of the 2020 NFL Draft. He was acquired in exchange for the draft pick that the Jaguars earned by trading CB A. J. Bouye to the Denver Broncos.
The veteran was traded to the Eagles in exchange for Jameson Houston as well as a 2023 sixth-round pick in May 2021. He was placed on injured reserve five months later and was activated in October. The cornerback stayed with the franchise till the 2022 season before getting traded in August 2023.
The 24-year-old was inked to the Pittsburgh Steelers practice squad at the start of the season and was placed on their practice squad reserve due to an injury. He never got to play a regular season match for the Steelers, and being a practice squad member, he was actually not likely to be a part of the regular roster until any of the team’s active players got injured. However, as the Eagles took the initiative to sign him in the practice squad, the CB will be again seen in their defensive line.
Scott returns to Eagles after stint with Steelers’ practice squad
The Philadelphia Eagles have been suffering uncertainty due to the injury at the cornerback spot. Darius Slay missed a practice session with a knee injury after playing the whole campaign against the Los Angeles Rams while Bradley Roby suffered a shoulder injury in-game.
Though Slay was expected to rejoin the team in the match against the Dolphins, the Eagles decided to sign Josiah Scott to their active roster to bolster the defense, as confirmed by the CB’s agency JL Sports.
The fourth-round draft pick played a total of 29 games for Philly in his last two-year stint with them, including four starts. He recorded 49 total tackles, two interceptions, as well as 8 pass deflections over that. The vet had experience as both nickelback and safety during his last stint with the Eagles, and now it remains to be seen how he can use his previous experience to give a nightmare to the Dolphins’ offense, that tore apart the Denver Broncos recently.
