Jrue Holiday was recently traded by the Milwaukee Bucks to bring in Damian Lillard in a three team trade. Holiday was reportedly stunned at the announcement of the trade. The Bucks planned the trade without telling anyone, not even the superstar of the Milwaukee Bucks, Giannis Antetokounmpo had any idea of it.
The management at Milwaukee was aware of the close relationship between Giannis and Holiday but refrained from disclosing it to anyone in order to make an informed decision. Holiday was later traded to the Boston Celtics in another deal, leaving Jrue Holiday’s wife, Lauren Holiday, surprised.
Who is Jrue Holiday’s wife, Lauren?
Lauren Holiday (formerly Lauren Nichole Cheney) is Jrue Holiday’s wife and former professional soccer player. She played for the Kansas City FC in the NWSL (National Women’s Soccer League) and for the Boston Breakers in the WPS (Women’s Professional Soccer). She also played for the women’s national team of the United States and won the FIFA Women’s World Cup with them. She is a two time Olympic gold medalist and has two children with Jrue.
Lauren was upset with the back to back surprises she and her family faced regarding the trade of her husband. She issued a public statement saying, “On Wednesday, my husband took a nap. He woke to news that he had been moved. No warning, heads up, not even a conversation that it could be a possibility. Just, it is done. Now move on because it is not personal, it is business.”
She emphasised on how the players who get traded also face a mental toll and are not objects that can be traded when it feels like. She further added, “I am not sharing this to say we entitled to anything. I am sharing this to say we are human beings whose kids develop friendships with other kids in community, we are people who value family and friendships and invest in the cities we play in. We do not just take from the city we play in, we give to the city we play in and we give our all.”
It seems like the constant tarde of her husband made Lauren upset and it took a mental toll on Jrue as the former Bucks gurd was allegedly not even informed of the move he was about to make.
Jrue Holiday contract at Celtics
Jrue Holiday is currently on a four year contract with the Boston Celtics, estimated to be worth around $134.99 million. He signed this deal with the Milwaukee Bucks back in 2021 and had a year remain in his contract before he was traded. The Celtics will now be responsible for a payment of $34.9 million this 2023-24 season.
Holiday will have a player option for the 2024-25 season, valued at around $37.3 million. It is reported that the Celtics are eager to extend Holiday’s contract and may offer him a long-term deal before his current contract expires. However, the possibility of Holiday choosing to opt out of his contract is quite likely, as he would be one of the most sought-after players on the market when he becomes a free agent.
