The transfer window is open, and this means that rumors and news of potential transfers are garnering much interest. Santiago Gomez may be relatively unknown in the massive sphere of soccer, but recently his name has come up in the transfer channels as well.
As always, Premier League clubs are ramping up their investment in the club by bringing in many players in the current window. We can see that with the recent arrival of Valentin Barco to Brighton and others. And now they are preparing another transfer.
Who is Santiago Gomez?
Santiago Gomez is a Mexican born striker who currently plays for the Dutch club Feyenoord. He also represents the Mexican national team at the international stage. However, the 22-year-old was actually born in Argentina’s capital city and later became a citizen of Mexico through naturalization.
Santiago Gomez has only recently made his mark in soccer, but he began his career back in 2014. From his youth years, he played for Mexican giants Cruz Azul. He then made his professional debut for them in 2017 and his league debut in 2019. His first goal was in 2020, scoring in a crucial game as well. After scoring 20 goals for them in 88 games, he made the decision to leave in 2022.
The Dutch club Feyenoord signed him and he immediately started to perform for them. Scoring 15 goals in 32 games, he helped Feyenoord win the Eredivisie in his first season itself. In the beginning of the season, he was given a one-year extension on his existing four-year deal.
In a 4-0 win over Ajax, he scored a great hat trick goal. He broke the long-standing goal record of Luis Suarez last year when he surpassed his record of most goals in a calendar year in the Eredivisie with his 31st strike.
While he could have represented Argentina, he chose to play for Mexico at the youth level. Santiago made his debut in 2021 and has made 24 appearances with 4 goals to show.
Premier League clubs reportedly interested in Santiago Gomez
With an impressive return of 33 goals in just 48 games and helping Feyenoord become the dominant force in Dutch soccer, there is much interest from foreign clubs for the player. Premier League clubs are now monitoring the player carefully as Santiago Gomez continues to make strides.
With a market value of €40 million, Gomez is on the books for many Premier League clubs. Being a prolific striker, he can guarantee goals for any of their teams. With that in mind, clubs like Chelsea, Arsenal, Tottenham, West Ham, and Fulham are among the clubs interested in the player. However, there is no strong contender for him yet, though that may change soon.
All of these clubs are looking for a striker, and Gomez could be a cheap and safe choice. Even Real Madrid were reported to be interested, though it may depend on Kylian Mbappe’s decision whether to join them or stay at Paris Saint Germain.
Santiago Gomez will be on the pitch for Feyenoord for their league clash against Vitesse next Sunday, with clubs sure to keep their eyes open for him.
