The United States is facing huge challenges in dealing with shooting incidents like never before as a minimum of 471 mass shootings occurred in the nation so far in 2023, per the Gun Violence Archive. The recent shooting at Choctaw High School once again raised concerns over the national issue.
From three people dying in a shooting at a Dollar General store in Florida following a racially motivated incident to four people including a teenager getting killed at an apartment in Maryland, the nation has already surpassed the 400 shooting mark in July. The Gun Violence Archive gave another horrible update saying it is the earliest month such a high number has been recorded in 10 years.

During the third quarter of the game between the Choctaw and Del City High School on Friday, gunshots were fired from near the north-side bleachers. According to police, a heated argument between at least two people led to the shooting, albeit no suspects are in custody till now.

The Uvalde Foundation for Kids announced a financial reward for information on the offender and its director Daniel Chapin raised eyebrows saying, “In a stadium filled with spectators and students, someone knows something. Do the right thing & say something.”
Police Chief Kelly Marshall said she would join a meeting with school authorities to provide proper counseling and discuss necessary safety measures for the students and spectators while promising to solve such horrible acts and restore safety to the whole community.
Aftermath of the Choctaw high school football shooting
According to a press release from the Choctaw Police Department on Saturday, a 16-year-old, whose identity is still unknown, got shot in the groin area. The teenager later died due to his injuries and he was reportedly not a student of either school.
Besides him, two other people were shot in the incident and were transported to a hospital. Out of them, one is a 42-year-old man who sustained a shot in the chest and is said to be in stable condition in the intensive care unit while another one is a young woman who got shot in the thigh and has been later released after treatment. Two female students also sustained minor injuries while attempting to flee the spot.
