Vincent Aboubakar seems to be a very unlucky man, especially in recent times. The Cameroonian has been one of the best African players in the last few years, and he helped his country grab a historic 1-0 win against Brazil in the 2022 World Cup.
Nobody ever seems to notice his immense potential or skill. Neither of the major teams he has played for has given him the respect he deserves, and he still hasn’t signed with one. And this seems to be a common thing for him.
Who is Vincent Aboubakar?
Vincent Aboubakar is a 31-year-old soccer player from Cameroon and is the captain of the national team. He plays mainly as a pure striker and is a proficient goal scorer.
He began his career at Coton Sport back in his homeland before making a move to French club Valenciennes in 2010. He would also play for Lorient and score 26 goals in Ligue 1.
Aboubakar then moved to Porto in 2014, scored 58 goals for them, and won the league title with them. He also won the Turkish League in 2017 while on loan at Beşiktaş, before joining them permanently on a free transfer in 2020. He would win the league again in 2021.
The same year, he would join Al Nassr on a three-year contract and score 12 goals for them. He then joined Besiktas again this year.
Vincent has been playing for the Cameroon national team since his debut in 2009. He played for them in the 2010, 2014, 2018, and 2022 World Cup editions. He scored the winning goal in a historic game against Brazil during the 2022 edition. Furthermore, his late goal secured them the African Cup of Nations in 2017. He scored 37 goals for them, making him their third-highest top scorer.
Aboubakar’s fate at new club post Cristiano Ronaldo’s signing
Vincent Aboubakar was released by Al Nassr for reasons unrelated to his performances. He was quite good for them, but when Cristiano Ronaldo agreed to join the club, they needed an open spot on the roster for foreign players. To ensure a smooth transfer for Ronaldo, both parties have mutually agreed to cancel the contract, with Aboubakar receiving full payment as per his agreement.
He joined Besiktas again on a free transfer, but is facing a similar fate. According to SPORTbible, along with Eric Bailly, Rachid Ghezzal, Jean Onana and Valentin Rosier, Vincent has been dropped from the squad this week. The club said it was due to poor performances on the pitch and incompatibility with the team.
His contract is still running, and he will be training separately. If he does meet the standards of his coach, he could make a return to the squad. The exclusions occur as Besiktas are only fifth in the league. If Vincent Aboubakar wants to return to the squad, he has to do everything that it takes, though the league is now suspended.
