Jose Mourinho was finally sacked today, after a disastrous first half with Roma. The club is ninth in Serie A, nowhere close to the European spots. They had only one win in their last six league games. They have also been kicked out of the Coppa Italia and barely qualified for the Europa League group stages.

A potential departure was hinted at right from the start of the season, but Mourinho decided to stay at the club. A loss to Derby rivals Lazio and a subsequent defeat to AC Milan were enough for the board to finally take the decision to sack the legendary manager. This is despite the fact that he had a year left on his contract.

Mourinho was appointed in May 2021 and brought them much success in a few years. He led them to the first European trophy in their history when they won the Europa Conference League in 2022. Last year, he took them to another consecutive European final in the Europa League but lost against Sevilla on penalties.
