Edge departed from WWE to sign with AEW and made his debut at Wrestledream in October 2023. Upon joining the company, he initiated a feud with his longtime friend and tag team partner, Christian Cage. Currently, ‘The Rated R Superstar’ holds the AEW TNT Champion title for the second time, marking significant success in the Florida-based promotion.
The WWE Universe was astonished by ‘The Ultimate Opportunist’s’ decision to leave the Stamford-based company for their rival promotion. In a detailed social media post, he revealed the true reasons behind his departure and why he believed it was the best decision for him.
Edge’s departure from WWE is explained
Adam Copeland, also known by his ring name Edge, shocked the wrestling world after he appeared at Tony Khan’s All Elite Wrestling (AEW) at the Wrestledream pay-per-view event, on Sunday, October 1, 2023, in Seattle, US. ‘The Rated R Superstar’ later explained why he decided to part ways with WWE after signing his new contract.
According to Edge, WWE has done enough for him to be the great wrestler he is today. After a magnificent entry in the new promotion, the ‘Judgement Day’ faction creator disclosed via a Twitter post that he wanted to do more in WWE.
However, according to The Rated R Superstar, his future storylines were not up to the level of the ‘Ruthless Aggression Era’. He added that WWE did not have much left for him and this made him pursue a different path, where he could build his career anew.
The inaugural Money in the Bank winner Edge, posted a message on social media where he expressed his gratitude for WWE. He said WWE gave him an image, put him on the map, and even made him meet the love of his life, Beth Phoenix, whom he later married. Copeland ended the message by saying he will always support the promotion, and he will always be watching as most of his friends are still with the company.
During an interview, WWE’s Chief Content Officer, Triple H shared his take on Edge joining AEW, saying, “Time was right for him and time was right for us. I think he had an amazing send-off here. He’s doing what’s right for him and his family, and I’m happy for him. I’m very, very happy for him. I sent him that in a message, ‘I’m happy for him,’ I’m proud of him and happy for him.”
Where exactly is Edge presently at?
Adam Copeland aka Edge is currently signed to Tony Khan’s Florida-based company, All Elite Wrestling (AEW). This promotion serves as a rival to WWE and offers Edge the opportunity to elevate his career to new heights. Prior to him, numerous former WWE superstars have made the switch to AEW, including CM Punk, Jeff Hardy, Chris Jericho, Daniel Bryan, Dean Ambrose, and Cesaro.
In the recent edition of AEW Dynamite, Adam Copeland squared off against Christian Cage in an ‘I Quit’ match for the TNT Championship. Both superstars have been engaged in a heated rivalry since last year, each vying to outdo the other. In their hometown of Toronto, Edge finally put an end to this rivalry by dethroning Cage and claiming the title for himself.
Despite leaving WWE for a new chapter in his career, Edge continues to receive support from fans for his unwavering dedication to the sport. As one of John Cena’s greatest adversaries, ‘The Rated R Superstar’ is poised to make a significant impact in AEW, and fans are eagerly anticipating his contributions to the promotion.
