Canelo Alvarez and Terence Crawford both signed contracts with Premier Boxing Champions. However, after just one fight within the promotion, they are now parting ways. This will be the biggest setback for the promotion, and the separation was mutually agreed upon.
While Terence Crawford and Canelo Alvarez have competed in various weight classes, Alvarez never showed an interest in fighting ‘Bud’. However, in the matter of separating from PBC, both fighters expressed the same interest.
Canelo Alvarez announces PBC exit
As everyone is aware, Canelo Alvarez chose Jermall Charlo over any other fighter to fight in May. But promotions were not showing interest in this match-up. PBC earlier tried to offer $35 million for fighting against Jaime Munguia, but Canelo was stubborn about his choice.
The current biggest star of boxing ended the 3-bout agreement after signing the deal in June last year. WBA champion Alvarez has already fought once for the promotion on September 30, 2023. But deal now ended up with the reason of disagreement on several choices of the Mexican champion.
News coming up from ESPN’s Mike Coppinger is that Canelo Alvarez has split from Al Haymon’s PBC after a mutual understanding. In one of his tweets, Mike revealed the whole scenario.
“Canelo Alvarez and PBC mutually agreed to part ways, sources told ESPN, with two fights remaining on a three-fight deal signed in June. The pact called for the star boxer to fight Jermall Charlo on May 4. However, Canelo and PBC couldn’t agree to terms. Jermall’s twin brother, Jermell, had a lackluster performance vs. Canelo in September, killing any brotherly revenge angle. And Jermall ended a 29-month layoff in November and failed to impress against Jose Benavidez Jr., so there was limited demand for Canelo-Charlo.”
The situation remained unchanged: Alvarez didn’t secure Jermall Charlo for the May 4th date. After leaving PBC, the Mexican fighter may face Edgar Berlanga (22-0), followed by Jaime Munguia (43-0).
Why did Terence Crawford leave PBC?
In just one day, PBC lost their two-star boxers: first Canelo Alvarez, then Terence Crawford. This move was unexpected, as both of them decided to part ways with the promotions. Surely, for Alvarez, it was clear he wanted Jermall Charlo on May 4. ‘Bud’ also had a single fight for the promotion last year against Errol Spence Jr.
According to Mike Coppinger’s news, Al Haymon’s PBC had only one fight deal with Terence Crawford, which included a rematch. But since the rematch clause has expired, Crawford is now a free agent. Now, according to Sportskeeda, Crawford might reunite with Top Rank. And Terence will still have eyes set on Canelo Alvarez.
