Why did Dillian Whyte vs Anthony Joshua get cancelled? Investigating ex-champs failed VADA drug test

The boxing match between Anthony Joshua and Deontay Wilder scheduled to be held around December in Saudi Arabia was one of the most hyped matchups for this calendar year. The card’s main event was expected to feature Tyson Fury vs Oleksandr Usyk for the potential unification bout.

The Furry vs Usyk fight got canceled earlier this year owing to negotiation failures but the AJ vs ‘The Bronze Bomber’ negotiations continued. Before the big war, Joshua was scheduled for another bout against a former opponent, which will no longer be happening as planned.

Dillian Whyte failed the VADA drug test prior to Anthony Johusa bout

A week before the scheduled boxing showdown, The Voluntary Anti-Doping Association’s official statement revealed that Dillian Whyte underwent a “random anti-doping protocol,” but adverse findings emerged.

This led to the cancellation of the bout between Joshua and Whyte, sparking various conflicting opinions. However, around a month ago, when both parties eventually signed the contract, many boxing enthusiasts had reason to be excited as thrilling news emerged.

Both AJ and The Body Snatcher emerged victorious in their last fights against Jermain Franklin, further solidifying their positions in the heavyweight division and setting the stage for an exciting clash.

Dillian Whyte vows to prove innocence

This is not the first time the Jamaica-born has faced reports of an adverse finding for a substance he claims not to have taken. Just like the previous incident, he appears determined to once again prove his innocence.

“I am shocked and devastated to learn of a report by Vada of adverse findings relating to me. I only learned of it this morning and am still reacting to it. I have also just seen that the fight is being canceled without having any chance to demonstrate my innocence before the decision was taken.” Whyte said.

Whyte, with a professional record of 29-3-0, has earned recognition in the boxing world by defeating prominent fighters such as Alexander Povetkin, Oscar Rivas, Joseph Parker, and Derek Chisora. Through these victories, the 35-year-old boxer has showcased his skill and determination inside the ring, solidifying his reputation as a formidable force.

“I can confirm without a shadow of doubt that I have not taken the reported substance, in this camp or at any point in my life. I am completely innocent and ask to be given the time to go through the process of proving this without anybody jumping to conclusions or a trial by media.” Whyte addressed.
