Why did the NFL impose a $10,927 fine on Ravens WR Odell Beckham Jr? Looking at the real cause

The Baltimore Ravens, led by superstar quarterback Lamar Jackson and formidable wide receiver Odell Beckham Jr., is back to their blazing form after witnessing a defeat from the Cleveland Browns. Following a 2-point loss to the Browns, they smashed Joe Burrow’s Cincinnati Bengals with a 34-20 victory.

With eight victories and three defeats, the Ravens are strongly proceeding to the playoff race this season. Meanwhile, apart from back-to-back injuries, Beckham Jr has once again faced a blow by getting slapped with a fine for his action in a recent match.

Why did the NFL fine Odell Beckham Jr?

Despite facing the blow of back-to-back injuries, Odell Beckham Jr moonlighted as a hero on the offensive side of the Ravens as he recorded 10 receptions for 212 yards with two touchdowns during his last three games. The veteran did his part well in the Ravens’ 31-33 loss to the Browns as well.

However, the NFL has found a reason to fine OBJ as he threw up a peace sign to the Browns’ defenders in a touchdown celebration in the Week 10 match. The league imposed a $10,927 fine on him due to this unsportsmanlike conduct, via NBC Sports.

Just days back, the Miami Dolphins star Tyreek Hill said a potential fine is waiting for the Ravens star. The vet said it from his experience as he too faced a $10,000 fine in 2022 for throwing a peace sign after a 64-yard touchdown.

Meanwhile, apart from this recent fine, the former LSU receiver had to digest a hefty amount of $33,317 in fines due to two unnecessary roughness violations in the match against Tennessee Titans in London. He also had to face a $21844 fine for unnecessary roughness in their match against the Detroit Lions.

Odell Beckham Jr injury update

During the fourth quarter of the Ravens’ win over the Bengals, Beckham sustained a shoulder injury as Cincy star Logan Wilson tackled him from behind after a 51-yard catch while running from Jackson. The receiver headed to the locker room for X-rays after a while, albeit head coach John Harbaugh later provided an optimistic outlook saying the injury did not look “too bad”.

“It doesn’t look too bad. I’m sure it’ll be something he’ll have to deal with. These guys all have stuff to deal with, but it doesn’t look too bad,” he said via Sporting News.

The Ravens are going to enjoy some extra days off before their next match against the Los Angeles Chargers on Nov. 26. OBJ said he would use the timeframe to recover soon.

“Happy we got a little weekend to recover. I’m gonna need it.”

The three-time Pro Bowler has been plagued by injuries throughout his NFL career as he also had to leave the Week 8 match with a stomach contusion. The vet returned to the league this season after missing the whole 2022 season with a torn ACL that he suffered during the Super Bowl LVI as a Los Angeles Rams player.

The receiver entered the Ravens’ latest contest with only 258 receiving yards this season and recorded more than 100 yards in a regular-season game for the first time since the 2019 season.
