At Survivor Series WarGames 2023, Randy Orton made a grand comeback to the WWE Universe by joining the team Cody Rhodes and entering the arena in his signature style with his old theme song.
Although WWE had considered changing his music, they ultimately decided to stick with the current formula for now. Initially, the plan was to use his old music for a few appearances to reintroduce him and then introduce the new theme, which eventually didn’t come to fruition.
Why did WWE allegedly reject Randy Orton’s new theme song?
Randy Orton’s famous theme song, “Voices,” was almost replaced before his appearance on a recent episode of “WWE SmackDown.” Earlier this year, the band ‘Rev Theory’ released a remixed version of Orton’s “Voices” theme song. The change made to Orton’s theme song was not the new version recorded by ‘Rev Theory’. Instead, the new version featured limited lyrics and no music at the top.
According to Fightful Select, a change to Orton’s theme song, which he has been using since 2008, was being considered before the December 8 episode. However, The Viper and WWE management discussed the change but ultimately decided against it. WWE wanted to use Orton’s original theme song for his first few appearances after returning from injury to ensure familiarity with the fans.
âWeâre told that Orton and management talked over the potential change before the show, and it was ultimately shot down. Those that Corey Brennan spoke with say that it was not the new Rev Theory version, and it had âno music off the top and limited lyrics.â It was nixed after one playthrough.â reported by Fightful Select.
Randy Orton on what’s next for his WWE career
Randy Orton has said many times that he will always be with WWE in some capacity, having been with the company since 2001 and recently making a grand return to the promotion at WWE Survivor Series WarGames 2023.
The Viper is currently an active wrestler, showing no signs of slowing down. However, he has also taken on the role of a mentor when the storyline demands it. This has been evident in his partnership with fellow wrestler Matt Riddle. His mentorship eventually led their duo to become WWE tag team champions.
Randy Orton has been delivering some impressive performances lately, but his future in WWE is uncertain due to the risk of him getting injured again. In the past, he had to take a break from the ring for 18 months due to an injury. If he gets injured in his current run with WWE, The Viper might think of retiring, and he has already teased the role that he will pick in WWE after retiring as a wrestler.
Last year, in an interview with “GiveMeSport,” Orton talked about the possibility of becoming a coach after he retires from wrestling.
“I donât really think Iâd be a good coach because I would start to just ramble… Itâs almost like I donât know how to articulate myself to a group of green guys who are coming into the business and need to learn the basics. If there were three, four, or five guys, a small group, and if we could go and talk and sit in the ring, if it could be like close quarters, just a small group of people where weâre not doing drills and stuff, but just talking and maybe watching tape, I think Iâd be good in that aspect,” said Randy Orton.
