On September 18, WWE applied to trademark the term “Global Localization” with the United States Patent & Trademark Office (USPTO). The filing indicates that the Stamford-based promotion intends to use this term in the category of entertainment services. The term was first coined by Triple H.
After terminating more than 100 employees within a day and releasing several talents from the roster, this might be another change happening for the development of the company under the new TKO Group of Headings.
Why did WWE trademark ‘Global Localization’?
On 18 September, WWE filed a trademark application for “Global Localization”. They want their promotion to expand globally in different countries around the world. The main goal of this trademark application is to establish several WWE training centers in different territories.
In recent years, the Stamford-based promotion has gradually expanded its business in Latin America, Europe, Australia, and other regions. Currently, they are trying to capture the Mexican territory for further growth, with their sights set on Asia and plans to build more facilities. However, all these plans could be frustrated if they don’t obtain permission to expand the business.
The filing submitted by WWE stated the following reasons for the trademark application:
“Entertainment services, namely, a show about professional wrestling; entertainment services, namely, the production and exhibition of professional wrestling events rendered live and through broadcast media including television and radio, and via the internet or commercial online service; providing wrestling news and information via a global computer network; providing information in the fields of sports and entertainment via an online community portal; providing a website in the field of sports entertainment; fan club services, namely, organizing and staging events with wrestling fan club members; providing online newsletters in the field of sports entertainment; online journals, namely, blogs in the fields of sports entertainment; Entertainment services like development and creation of multimedia entertainment content”
Triple H first explained WWE’s ‘Global Localization’ plan back in 2018
In 2018, at the WWE Business Partner Summit, Triple H explained the term “Global Localization” which WWE has been using to refer to their international expansion of the business. The Game explained the reason for using the term and the meaning of that term during his interview. The promotion trademarked this term right before WrestleMania 34.
Triple H used NXT as an example and explained how it became its version of the phenomenon as it facilitated WWE by providing a new way to find more talent for the main roster. He also said Global Localization is an attempt at scaled versions of the template WWE created with the Performance Center and NXT.
“I quickly realized NXT needed a feeder system of its own. We had to re-imagine again how and where we were recruiting. We had to find the right people not only inside of the United States but outside as well,” said Triple H.
