Ever since his loss to Cody Rhodes at SummerSlam earlier this year, Brock Lesnar has been mostly absent from WWE events. While he has consistently appeared at WWE’s annual Crown Jewel event in Saudi Arabia, it seems that the Beast Incarnate may be missing from this year’s show.
WWE has been hosting the Crown Jewel PLE at Saudi Arabia every year since 2018. With less than two weeks away from the annual event, WWE is gearing up it’s big names to appear at the show. However, according to recent news, Brock Lesnar may not be on the list of stars to appear.
Reason for Brock Lesnar’s absence from Crown Jewel
Since his comeback in 2021, Brock Lesnar has been making several appearances for WWE. Early in the year, he was very active, battling against Cody Rhodes in a trilogy of fights that Rhodes ultimately won. After that, Lesnar stopped appearing on WWE television. According to the most recent rumors, Lesnar may not even be able to make it to this year’s Crown Jewel event.
Mike Johnson of PWInsider.com has commented on the matter, clarifying that while WWE initially planned Brock Lesnar to be a part of the event, they later decided against it when they booked Logan Paul, Roman Reigns, John Cena and LA Knight for the event. Apparently, with tickets being sold out for the event, WWE wants to save Lesnar for a future PLE.
“WWE sources indicate that the company opted not to bring Lesnar into the plans for this event as with Roman Reigns vs. LA Knight, plus John Cena and Logan Paul, etc. all resulting in an immediate sellout of the venue, it was best to save Lesnar for a future event in the market”, noted Mike Johnson.
Updated match card for WWE Crown Jewel 2023
WWE has announced a number of big matches for Crown Jewel 2023, with Roman Reigns vs LA Knight topping the list. In addition to this, a returning Logan Paul challenged United States Champion Rey Mysterio to a match for the championship title at the upcoming event. Below is the updated match card for Crown Jewel 2023:
- WWE Universal Championship match: Roman Reigns(c) vs LA Knight
- WWE United States Championship match: Rey Mysterio(c) vs Logan Paul
- WWE Women’s World Championship match: Fatal 5-Way match- Rhea Ripley(c) vs Nia Jax vs Shayna Baszler vs Raquel Rodriguez vs Zoey Stark
