WBA lightweight champion Gervonta Davis has not fought since his 7th-round TKO victory over the then-undefeated Ryan ‘King’ Garcia. With the victory, Davis made it 25 knockouts in 27 fights in his undefeated professional boxing career.
Undefeated British welterweight Connor Benn managed to secure a victory against Peter Dobson through a unanimous decision in his recent bout at Chelsea Ballroom in Paradise, Nevada, USA. As an undefeated fighter and under the representation of Eddie Hearn’s Matchroom Boxing, Conor Benn could be a potential opponent for Gervonta Davis in the boxing ring.
Is Gervonta Davis going to fight Conor Benn?
Gervonta Davis and Conor Benn seem destined to meet up in the ring as evidenced by the social media interactions between Davis, Benn, and Eddie Hearn. After the back and forth between Davis and Benn, Hearn confirmed with the tweet, “Done 🤝”, referencing that he has begun the negotiations for the fight to happen.
“Is there anyone between 140 and 160lb who doesn’t want to fight @ConorNigel 😂 Whole World calling his name..big fight next! @DAZNBoxing🌎”, Hearn tweeted again further fueling speculations that the fight will potentially happen. However, an interesting thing to note is that Davis has not fought above lightweight whilst Benn has never fought lower than welterweight.
The chances of the fight happening in the US are very high because Davis expressed his disinterest in fighting in Riyadh. Davis, who converted to Islam and adopted the name Abdul Wahid, demanded to have two Ferraris to fight in Riyadh after Turki Alalshikh expressed his interest in hosting the fight between Devin Haney and Gervonta Davis.
Benn, on the other hand, has fought the majority of his fights in the UK, but his two recent fights were in the USA. In addition to Davis, there are several other names that Benn is interested in fighting as he tweeted, “Haney, Eubank Jr ( not Harry ), Spence, Brook, Barrios. Any of the above next @EddieHearn”, after his victory over Peter Dobson.
Gervonta Davis and Conor Benn exchange shots online
Gervonta Davis did not take a liking to Conor Benn’s callout of big names on X after he defeated Peter Dobson. “No funny, the way you looked last night..Give me 3 weeks & a weekend in Turks and yo ass is grass..you hear me!”, Davis tweeted predicting a victory for himself over Benn if they ever fought.
“Oh here he is the woman beating munchkin from oz ! Let’s do it next ??”, Benn tweeted trolling Davis for his past domestic violent charges and called for a fight next. In response, Davis enquired the location of the potential bout, “Sure why not..where would you like ya ass whooping at bruv”.
“Don’t be all talk either let’s make sure this happens next”, tweeted Benn bashing Davis to which Davis responded with the tweet, “You doing too much talking now..stfu and get to work, see you soon”. If the fight materializes, Benn would be Davis’ third undefeated opponent in 4 fights.
Gervonta Davis has earned a reputation for handing out first professional losses to opponents, including Rolly Romero and Ryan Garcia. Despite UFC bantamweight champion Sean O’Malley expressing interest in facing Davis, O’Malley currently has a scheduled fight at UFC 299 against Marlon Vera.
