Will London host Super Bowl? Exploring the possibility after recent reports

Every season, excitement runs high in the NFL world as fans eagerly await the crowning of the Super Bowl champion. With heart-pounding moments and breathtaking plays, it pits two conference champions against one another in a battle for football supremacy and the cherished Lombardi Trophy.

The NFL already extended its border, hosting a few games on foreign soil while making it a tradition with at least one game played in London since 2007. Meanwhile, recently, the authorities revealed the possibility of arranging the season’s final game outside of American territory.

NFL exploring possibility of Super Bowl in London

As the NFL games never failed to attract the fans, speculations have arisen about whether the fans will see the winner of the Super Bowl clinching the trophy in the field of London.

Last week, NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell confronted questions regarding the possibilities in a fan forum in London. Goodell shut down the possibility of hosting the Super Bowl final game this season. Yet, the commissioner has at least pondered a strong desire to do so in the near future.

“It is not impossible, and it is something that has been discussed before,” he said.

The venue of the next three Super Bowls has already been made public and a Super Bowl in London has not yet gained any traction. Goodell also shared that they are not still ready to host the final game in cities that do not have franchises.

“I think that is not out of the question. But at the end of the day, I think right now our formula will stay the same about playing [Super Bowls] in cities that have franchises.”

Reportedly,  the Super Bowl of this season is set to be played at Allegiant Stadium in Las Vegas in February 2024,  Caesars Superdome Stadium in New Orleans will host next season’s Super Bowl in February 2025, and the 2025 season’s final is scheduled to place at Levi’s Stadium in Santa Clara, California, in February 2026.

NFL in Europe remaining dates, games

Through the 2022 season, the league has played 35 regular-season games in Europe. Back in May, the NFL announced the dates and fixtures of five international games of this NFL season, all of them in Europe, with three in London, England, and two in Frankfurt, Germany.

Among them, two already took place, with the Atlanta Falcons’ 23-7 win over the Jacksonville Jaguars on October 1. In the next London game, the Jaguars again took the spot, being the only team playing multiple international games this season and closing the game with a 20-25 win over the Buffalo Bills.

Now, there are just three games left to be played outside the border of America. Today on October 15, the third international game will feature the battle of Baltimore Ravens and Tennessee Titans.
