Williams Racing pens down new deal with Mercedes beyond 2026

Mercedes-Benz has not only been a formidable team but has also supplied power units to several teams in recent years. In November of last year, McLaren became the brand’s inaugural customer for the new 2026 power unit regulations.

According to recent reports, Williams has also entered into an agreement with the brand, generating anticipation and excitement among the spectators for the upcoming seasons.

Williams to use Mercedes power units amid upcoming engine regulations in 2026

Williams has decided to buy the power units from the famous brand Mercedes-Benz for the 2026 Formula One season. The partnership between the duo has been bonded since a long time back hence, strengthening their bond furthermore with the renewal of the contract.

Both the team principals have expressed their satisfaction with the partnership, confirming the welfare of the motorsports industry in the future. Toto Wolff, speaking on behalf of the entire team, said “We are delighted to confirm Williams Racing as the second customer team that we will supply for the 2026 power unit regulations.”

“Today’s news highlights the strength of the Mercedes-Benz offering in F1 and importantly, not only validates, but reinforces, our overall motorsport strategy.”

On the other hand, James Vowles has also expressed optimism regarding the upcoming collaboration by stating, “We have enjoyed a long-term partnership with Mercedes-Benz, and we are thrilled to extend this collaboration into the next era of Formula 1.”

Relationship between Williams and Mercedes

Mercedes and Williams history started in 2014 with V6 turbo-hybrids being replaced with V8 engines. Later on, Formula 1 continued to use the engines for another eight seasons before introducing a new change to the engines.

The V8 engines also brought about a historical change in the sport, with Mercedes-Benz becoming the tenth engine manufacturer to partner with Williams Racing throughout history. Since then, their relationship has been blooming, showcasing a sense of trust and respect for each other for approximately a decade now.

With the help of the new engines, Williams broke several records, from scoring a double podium in Abu Dhabi to collecting the most points ever by a team in a single Grand Prix at that time.
