WrestleMania is the biggest event in WWE known for epic matches and unforgettable moments. One such moment occurred at WrestleMania 23 in 2007 when Stone Cold Steve Austin served as a special guest referee for the match between Vince McMahon and the former President of the United States, Donald Trump.
However, Stone Cold transformed the match into one of the most memorable encounters by delivering his signature move, the Stone Cold Stunner, to Donald Trump.
Stone Cold stunned Donald Trump at WrestleMania 23
In 2007, the intensifying rivalry between Vince McMahon and Donald Trump reached its pinnacle, culminating in “The Battle of the Billionaires” match at WrestleMania 23. The match got hyped when the WWE announced Stone Cold Steve Austin as the guest referee. The match also had a stipulation, in which the loser have his head shaved bald in front of the crowd
The two men agreed to put their hair on the line and McMahon picked Umaga, while Trump chose Bobby Lashley to fight on their behalf. In between the match Trump and McMahon were involved in the action, interfering and attacking each other at various points.
The match concluded with Lashley spear-tackling Umaga and securing the three-count, declaring Trump the winner and McMahon the loser. Trump celebrated with Lashley and Austin, while McMahon attempted to flee the ring. Subsequently, they restrained McMahon on a barber’s chair, and Trump, as the winner, shaved McMahon’s head with a razor, leaving him completely bald.
However, Trump’s celebration was abruptly halted as Stone Cold delivered a devastating Stone Cold Stunner to Trump, eliciting cheers and laughter from the crowd. It remains one of the most iconic and unexpected stunners in WWE history.
Stone Cold revealed how Vince McMahon convinced Trump for the spot
The Battle of the Billionaires is one of the classic WrestleMania moments of all time. Despites the match between Donald Trump and Vince McMahon, the stunner from Stone Cold received a huge pop from the WWE Universe.
During a podcast Stone Cold revelaled how McMahon convined Trump to receive a stunner from him. He said, ” And Donald Trump’s right hand guy all of a sudden goes, ‘Oh no no no no you don’t need to do that there’s a million reasons why you shouldn’t do that. And here’s why.’ But Donald said, he looked at Vince, and he goes ‘You think it’ll help the show?’ He goes ‘Oh Donald they’ll go crazy.’ So Donald Trump was was man enough to go out there and now we botched it.”
He also added, “It was the slickest stunner that I ever delivered but I give him credit. Just from it. Whatever anyone’s opinion is that he did was cool enough and in a Showtime event like that event to go out there and be a part of the show and make people happy. I dug it.”
However, with all the iconic WrestleMania moments in history, The Battle of the Billionaires still remains of the greatest segment that WWE has ever produced.
