What is WTA Finals 2023 starting date and venue?

Cancun, Mexico will host the 2023 season-ending WTA Finals from Oct. 29-Nov. 5, the WTA announced Thursday. The prestigious year-end finale features the Top 8 singles players and doubles teams in the Race to the WTA Finals.

There had been strong rumours that the event would be held in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia, but criticism from several former players, including Chris Evert and Martina Navratilova, caused a rethink. Prague was also a possible venue, but on September 7, it was confirmed that it will be held in Mexico.

The confusion over the WTA Finals venue follows a decision in 2018 to award the event to Shenzhen, China from 2019 to 2028. However, after the COVID-19 pandemic and the suspension of all WTA events in China over concerns of the Chinese government’s treatment of WTA player Peng Shuai – who accused a former top Communist Party leader of sexual assault and then retracted it under pressure – the tournament was held in Guadalajara, Mexico in 2021, while in 2022 it was held in Fort Worth, Texas.

Cancun, often regarded as the heart of the Mexican Caribbean, is renowned for its white beaches, vibrant culture, and hosting prestigious events, including ITF tennis tournaments.
