WWE superstars Cody Rhodes and Jey Uso teamed up on last week’s episode of Monday Night Raw. Both superstars have a common beef with the Judgment Day faction. They teamed up to face Judgment Day’s Finn Balor and Damian Priest in a WWE Tag Team Championship match at WWE Fastlane 2023. The match was indeed a high-octane one, as all the superstars performed their best in the match.
However, it was Rhodes and Jey who secured the win despite being interfered with during the match by Dominik Mysterio and Rhea Ripley.
Cody Rhodes and Jey Uso become the new tag team champs
Just over half a year ago, Jey Uso stood alongside Roman Reigns, aka The Tribal Chief, as Reigns defeated Cody Rhodes at WrestleMania 39. Rhodes was devastated by the outcome of the match. But yesterday at WWE Fastlane 2023, Jey and Rhodes teamed up to settle their unfinished scores with the Judgment Day faction. They emerged victorious against Judgment Day’s Finn Balor and Damian Priest. This win made them the WWE Undisputed Tag Team Champions.
The match followed the typical ebb and flow until Rhea Ripley, aka The Eradicator and NXT North American Champion Dominik Mysterio interfered in the match. Getting furious by the distraction caused by them, Jey delivered a Superkick on Dirty Dom. During this whole fiasco, Damian and Balor recovered and started their counterattack. The priest delivered a very powerful Hurricanrana on Jey but while performing this move, he injured his knee.
With Priest injured, Finn got cornered by Cody Rhodes and Jey Uso. But within a moment, JD McDonagh tried a decisive move as he threw the MITB briefcase, aiming at The American Nightmare and accidentally hit the priest’s injured knee. This allowed Jey and Rhodes to deliver a combined move on Balor. Thus, they secured the victory by pin.
Cody Rhodes feud with Judgment Day
WWE superstar Cody Rhodes, aka The American Nightmare and the Judgment Day faction have quite a history if we connect the broken links. The rivalry between them is not new; it dates back to June of this year.
In June, Rhodes was once interrupted by the Judgment Day members backstage, which teased that they might fight in the future. Later that night, a tag team match was held where Cody partnered with Zayn and Owens to face the heel faction. Again in August, Rhodes was in a promo with Seth Rollins, aka The Architect and got interrupted by Judgment Day. After that, a brawl started where Sami Zayn came to rescue Rhodes and they were also supposed to have a tag team match against the Judgment Day faction.
But unfortunately, Sami was injured by a sudden sneak attack by Finn and Damian. After that, it was decided that Seth would team up with Cody in that match and surprisingly, they were able to win against Judgment Day.
Cody Rhodes has again faced Judgment Day and emerged victorious. However, the most plausible reason for Cody to have rivalry against Judgment Day is his identity as the top babyface of the company, where the latter faction is heel by nature. The rivalry is still far from finished and has just started with Judgment Day’s Tag Team Championship loss.
