WWE HOF Diamond Dallas Page once won ‘Diamond Cutter’ hand gesture trademark lawsuit against Jay-Z

Wrestling icon and successful yoga instructor Diamond Dallas Page is known for his legendary runs in WCW and WWE. His hand gesture, the Diamond Cutter, is one of the most recognizable symbols in the world of professional wrestling. However, unknown to many, he once successfully sued hip-hop artist Jay-Z for the unlicensed use of the Diamond Cutter symbol.

Although he was a late starter in the wrestling world, Diamond Dallas Page made his in-ring debut as a wrestler in 1991 at the age of 35. He went on to have a legendary run in WCW, where he became a three-time WCW World Champion before moving on to have a short stint in WWE.

Diamond Dallas Page once sued Jay-Z over ‘Diamond Cutter’ hand gesture trademark

Way back in 2005, wrestling icon Diamond Dallas Page once famously sued hip-hop legend Jay-Z for the unauthorized use of his ‘Diamond Cutter’ hand symbol. The WWE Hall of Famer has been using the symbol ever since the ’90s and has already registered the symbol as a trademark for various clothing items.

The suit against the hip-hop legend was filed in the Los Angeles Federal Court, which accused Jay-Z and Roc-A-Fella Records of copyright infringement as well as misappropriation of DDP’s hand symbol. In the suit, the Hall of Famer sought an injunction that would debar Jay-Z from using the symbol.

There isn’t much information available on the case, other than the fact that the case was settled outside of court with Jay-Z making a payment settlement of an unknown amount to Diamond Dallas Page. Although this whole case seemed a bit silly to other fans and people following the dispute, many would go on to question the significance of the hand symbol.
