WWE HOFer accuses John Cena of hogging spotlight off Roman Reigns, LA Knight

WWE superstar John Cena is a powerhouse in the world of professional wrestling. His unparalleled skill and dedication to the sport have made him a top performer in the industry.

His presence is always greeted with loud chants from the audience present in the arena. However, his recent appearance in a segment on the last episode of WWE SmackDown has received criticism from a former WWE superstar. The Hall of Famer accused Cena of stealing the limelight from other stars involved in that particular segment of SmackDown.

Mark Henry accuses John Cena of upstaging Roman, LA Knight

It’s worth noting that WWE superstar John Cena has been a consistent performer in recent WWE shows since his return at the Money in the Bank Premium Live Event. Currently, he is partnering with LA Knight at SmackDown, and together they’re making a formidable team. Despite his significant contributions to a recent segment involving Roman Reigns and LA Knight, it’s disappointing to see that the leader of Cenation is still facing criticism from some people.

During the most recent episode of Friday Night SmackDown, John Cena was tasked with introducing The Megastar as the next opponent of the Undisputed Universal Champion. However, Cena’s presence during the segment was a double-edged sword that also diverted some attention away from LA Knight and Roman Reigns, who deserved more attention.

In a recent episode of the “Busted Open” podcast, WWE legend Mark Henry shared his thoughts on a segment and stated that John Cena’s presence reduced the overall impact of the segment. According to the former WWE star, the segment would have been better if it did not include Cena.

“The number one thing was [Cena] drawing attention to himself. You cannot [do that] when something is going on in the ring.”, Mark Henry said.

“I remember I did that with Ron Simmons one time. Once. Because he said, ‘Shut the f*** up!’ on TV. [He meant,] ‘Don’t move, don’t say anything. I’m working.’ And I drew attention away from him, and I wasn’t supposed to say nothing so I shouldn’t have said nothing. We know the obvious reason why — because he’s John Cena. All of the antics and the ‘Hey, look at me’ — it took away from the segment.”, he concluded.

Henry believed Cena’s win was wrong

In 2013, Mark Henry and John Cena had a title match at Money in the Bank. In that match, Cena came out as the winner as he was able to take down The World’s Strongest Man. However, Henry was not happy with that outcome.

During an interview with Heavy in 2020, Mark Henry was asked which match from his career he would redo if given the chance. Henry responded by expressing his desire to redo his 2013 match with John Cena. The World’s Strongest Man not only wanted to win the match, but he also wanted to have an extended rivalry with the G.O.A.T. of WWE.

“The other one is after my retirement speech and I turned on John Cena which is one of the more historical wrestling moments in history, I was so beaten up that I wanted to go home, that I didn’t really wanna wrestle no more.”

“Like I was in so much pain, because like I said, it was real to me and I told people, ‘Lay it in, because I’m gonna hit you’ and I want you saying, ‘I beat you up and took advantage of you.’ Like I’m giving my body to you, let’s go, and the match I had was in Philadelphia [Money in The Bank 2013] with John Cena and I lost that match when I should’ve won that match.”, said Mark Henry.

He also added, “I should have told them, ‘Nah, I’m not gonna go home.’ Like, let’s run a six-month program and we could’ve had many matches, but you know, I was ready to go.”
