There have been many commentators in WWE’s history, and they’ve always struggled to find the sweet spot between on-screen chemistry and narrative when it comes to wrestling matches. Commentators are vital because they amuse the crowd by playing both sides of the coin.
Some noticeable changes have taken place since last year’s merger, and Kevin Patrick’s formal addition to the WWE commentary crew is the latest example of this. However, earlier reports said that he would soon be leaving his job as the lead voice on SmackDown, and now there are final reports that he has been officially fired.
WWE officially parted ways with Kevin Patrick
Just one month after being promoted to the position, Kevin Patrick was removed from his post as lead announcer on SmackDown earlier this week by WWE. According to recent sources, Michael Cole has been named to temporarily fill the role. The original rationale for Patrick’s dismissal was unclear but new information implies that things “just wasn’t working out.”
It is now official that Patrick has cut all ties with WWE, and dashed all dreams for his future there. Professional Wrestling Insider says that Michael Cole may lead the commentary in two different roles for the time being with Corey Graves. Patrick was originally supposed to go to Florida this week for SmackDown, so his departure seems to have been a last-minute decision.
Kevin Patrick, who has worked as a broadcaster for several networks including CNN International, Sirius XM, and beIN SPORTS, joined WWE in March 2021, and was promoted to the position of announcer in January 2023. Additional details will be shared as they become available. However, Patrick has refrained from making any public comments on his departure.
Who is going to replace Kevin Patrick in WWE?
Michael Cole departed SmackDown at the end of 2023 to concentrate on Monday Night Raw with Wade Barrett as part of WWE’s latest commentator shake-up. Just before the start of the month, Kevin Patrick filled in for the primary announcer on SmackDown, but he was suddenly fired. For coming Friday’s SmackDown, Michael Cole will be joining Corey Graves, replacing Patrick.
Longtime NXT voice actor Vic Joseph is one possible candidate for Patrick’s successor. Tom Phillips, Adnan Virk, Jimmy Smith, and Patrick are just a few of the play-by-play announcers that have come from WWE in recent years. Changes are occurring in the commentary environment, and SmackDown’s future roster is still up in the air.
