WWE legend Chris Jericho once credited John Cena’s WrestleMania 23 bout for reigniting his wrestling fire

In the history of pro wrestling, very few superstars are considered an inspiration to fans and aspiring wrestlers. They are even considered a role model by many fans. One of those lucky superstars is John Cena.

Cena has been in the industry for a long time and he is very well-known for his dedication to the ring. Even the former 9 times WWE champion Chris Jericho considers John Cena an inspiration for his return to the ring.

Chris Jericho drops candid John Cena confession

WWE superstar John Cena has inspired many wrestlers to wrestle. He is one of the most excellent performers in the pro wrestling industry and gives his all in the ring for the sake of the audience. He had been a major face in WWE for over a decade now. His incredible work ethic has inspired fans, fellow wrestlers, and not just anyone; the man in question is AEW star, Chris Jericho who is also a former WWE star.

Chris Jericho

Chris Jericho took a two-year break from WWE in 2005 after his contract expired the company, and mentioned that he was burnt out and needed a break from everything. During his break, John Cena established himself as one of the most decorated stars on the roster of the company and went on to have many big matches. Cena defended his WWE Championship against Shawn Michaels aka The Heartbreak Kid at WrestleMania 23. That match pushed Chris Jericho to come back to the ring.

Jericho spoke about this special moment on the Broken Skull Sessions with Stone Cold Steve Austin. “When I finally decided to come back to wrestling in 2007, it’s because I saw, remember when they had Shawn and Cena at WrestleMania 23? I remember for the first time in two years, I watched wrestling,” he said.

Chris continued, “I didn’t follow it. I didn’t read the dirt sheets, I didn’t go online, I was done. B word – burned out. Then I heard about Shawn vs. Cena at WrestleMania. I love Cena’s work, one of my favorite opponents. I remember watching, and I was jealous, like, I wanna do that. I know I can do that because I’ve done it with both. I am really, really jealous. It’s time to come back.”

It’s wild to think that Cena inspired someone like Chris Jericho to return to the ring. It shows how much his work is valued despite what his haters say.

Who was the winner of WrestleMania 23?

It’s not uncommon for Wrestlemania match cards to get shuffled from their original path because, especially nowadays, matches are planned from the previous year’s Wrestlemania. Injuries are the worst-case scenario when it comes to messing with scheduled plans. It happened at Wrestlemania 23 when several top stars were injured. Triple H was supposed to do the main event, but the domino effect transformed almost everything into shambles. The only match that was always meant to happen was Taker vs Batista.

Regardless, Wrestlemania 23 ended up being a good show with Shawn Michaels and John Cena putting on a very good match. Cena literally drove to WrestleMania to prove his worth and Michaels certainly deserved the spot as he was putting on some of the best work of his career at that point. John Cena was able to secure his victory though he was not able to take his revenge on Triple H for the humiliation he received in the previous Wrestlemania 22. However, one can only imagine what would have happened if Triple H was his opponent in that match instead of Shawn.
