WWE reportedly altered Cody Rhodes’ WrestleMania 39 victory plans

Cody Rhodes’ triumph was initially slated for last year’s WrestleMania, sparking widespread belief that WWE erred by altering plans to have Cody defeat Roman Reigns for the Undisputed WWE Universal Title at WrestleMania 39. However, following this year’s monumental Mania event, it’s evident that the WWE board with Triple H and Vince McMahon made the correct decision.

Historic changes occurred in the world of pro wrestling as Cody Rhodes defeated the Tribal Chief to become the new Undisputed WWE Champion at WrestleMania 40. It was a surprising change of events since Rhodes was supposed to defeat Roman Reigns at WrestleMania last year. But WWE wanted Reigns to win so they could promote Jey Uso as a solo performer and establish the proper Bloodline plot.

The recent edition of the Wrestling Observer Newsletter revealed, “The original plan at last year’s WrestleMania was for Cody Rhodes to defeat Roman Reigns. Both Vince McMahon and Paul Levesque were on board with the return from pec surgery and the title win……It was also argued that keeping Reigns as champion would open up a key storyline to make Jey Uso into a major singles star and merchandise draw as a babyface.”

Many fans were upset when Cody Rhodes lost to Roman Reigns at WrestleMania 39, but that makes his win this year even more satisfying. Meanwhile, some fans can’t help but wonder how much more epic WrestleMania 40 would have been if the American Nightmare had won the main event last year.

Fans had mixed thoughts concerning the massive plot reveal

Things may have turned out differently if Cody had won last year, considering the phenomenal popularity of this year’s WrestleMania, especially the Cody Rhodes vs. Bloodline storyline.

Timme04 is one of those fans who agrees, writing, “I think we now can say it was definitely the right decision.” A few others are overjoyed, saying things like, “It opened up an entirely new dimension of storytelling for the future.”

However, some folks still think Cody should have won last year so WrestleMania 40 would have been more exciting. A supporter said, “It’s crazy to think how different things would be if he won at WrestleMania 39.”

“So it wasn’t Vince that wanted Cody to lose at Mania 40.” was one of the comments made by those who discovered that Vince McMahon wasn’t solely responsible for last year’s main event.

Oh, hi, this is Md Robin Ahmed, a WWE fan and I everyday go through a slew of popular WWE stories on Sportszion. Watching Big Show's Showstopper was the beginning of my passion for WWE, though I have to say that his Chokeslam is not one of my favorite moves. Over time, my love for professional wrestling has intensified, mostly due to the Shield, and my all-time favorite wrestler in WWE is Big Dog. I would give everything to be able to be within a few feet of him to witness his iconic Superman Punch and Spear. My major is engineering, but I'm most happy when I'm doing something artistic that doesn't put me under any pressure. Watching them wrestle and discuss their matches is always fun for me. And I've finally discovered a career that gives me fun since it allows me to with my dream heroes lifestyle. So, Welcome! I'd love to hear from you on LinkedIn and Facebook.
