Trick Williams, the 29-year-old star from Columbia, has become one of the most exciting and promising stars in WWE today. Within two years since his debut at WWE, Williams has gained a lot of fanbase on the NXT roster. He is also a former NXT North American Champion and the winner of the 2023 Men’s Iron Survivor Challenge.
With a few days remaining for his championship match against Ilja Dragunov, he has caught the attention of WWE officials, who recognize his potential to headline WrestleMania, the biggest show of the year.
WWE reportedly views Trick Williams as WM main event potential
Trick Williams popularity and potential were evident when he made a surprise appearance on SmackDown last week. Williams received a huge pop from the WWE fans when he entered the ring to rescue his longtime tag team partner, Carmelo Hayes, from an attack by Austin Theory and Grayson Waller.
The crowd erupted in cheers and chants for Williams, who looked right at home on the main roster. According to the reports from Haus of Wrestling, the WWE Superstars and the SmackDown creative team were extremely impressed by the reaction of fans on seeing him in Smackdown last week. The reports also confirms that WWE have noted that Williams possesses the potential to headline the main event of WrestleMania in the future.
Williams has two big matches in this week’s NXT Vengeance Day, as he is set to face Ilja Dragunov for the NXT North American Champion and battle in the finals of Men’s Dusty Rhodes Tag Team Classic against Baron Corbin and Bron Breakker. The event will be held on February 4, 2024, at the F&M Bank Arena in Clarksville, Tennessee.
Shawn Michaels with high praise for Trick Williams following WWE SmackDown cameo
On the recent episode of Battleground Podcast, the Senior Vice President of Talent Development Creative, Shawn Michaels, praised Williams on his cameo in SmackDown.
He said, “You watch Trick, to step out of the shadow of Carmelo Hayes and then begin to start something that’s almost like a groundswell that we haven’t seen before. It’s when it happens from the very beginning, it’s ever organic and you watch it just get bigger and bigger.”
He added, “Then to watch him do that, and to get to be a part of it to help guide and nurture along the way has just been a sheer joy for me to the both of them. When you see him run out on SmackDown and listen to the entire arena chanting, ‘Whoop that Trick,’ that’s when you know. It’s something even bigger than I think he imagined.”
Previoulsy, Williams was also praised by Michael’s tag team partner, Triple H, for his performance and the Game also picked Williams as the possible member for his DX team. Despites, being a heel and a arrogant character in the WWE, Williams performance and his charisma has earned him the credits from WWE legends.
