WWE SmackDown: Roman Reigns comes face to face with Cody Rhodes since WrestleMania 39 teasing possible rematch

This week’s episode of Friday Night SmackDown not only had Roman Reigns and Cody Rhodes in the same show, but also featured a standoff between the two megastars. The two men have considerable history between them, as they were involved in a bitter rivalry against each other in the weeks leading to WrestleMania 39.

After Cody Rhodes returned to WWE at WrestleMania 38, he rose to the top pretty quick, as he defeated some of the top stars of the company, won the 2023 Royal Rumble and headlined WrestleMania 39 against Roman Reigns for the Universal Championship.

Roman Reigns comes face to face with Cody Rhodes

The September 13 edition of SmackDown was scheduled to feature multiple appearances from some of the top stars in WWE. Among them was the Undisputed WWE Champion Roman Reigns, who made his long-awaited return to the blue brand last night. He came face to face with John Cena and LA Knight, with the latter being teased to be Reigns’ opponent at an upcoming PLE.

On the other hand, Cody Rhodes and Jey Uso were set to defend their Undisputed Tag Team titles on SmackDown last night. The two issued an open challenge, which was answered by the team of Grayson Waller and Austin Theory. The match saw Rhodes and Uso emerge victorious in the end. As the duo were making their way backstage, they came face to face with The Bloodline and their Tribal Chief, Roman Reigns.

In the confrontation, Reigns told Rhodes “This is my show”, before making his way to the ring. This interaction has led fans to believe that WWE might be building up to a possible rematch between The Tribal Chief and The American Nightmare in the future.

Possible dates for Roman Reigns vs Cody Rhodes rematch

After Roman Reigns’ confrontation with Cody Rhodes on SmackDown last night, it appears WWE is hinting at a potential rematch between the two. If Rhodes decides he wants a rematch against The Tribal Chief, he would have to win the 2024 Royal Rumble to earn it. Alternatively, WWE might incorporate Jey Uso into the storyline to set up a showdown between The American Nightmare and The Head of The Table.

A match between the two at WrestleMania 40 seems like a fantastic idea, where Rhodes might achieve his goal of dethroning the Head of the Bloodline. This could potentially redeem what many considered a disappointing conclusion to WrestleMania 39, as Cody Rhodes was heavily hyped as the one to end Roman Reigns’ reign.

While a rematch between them appears plausible, it’s unlikely to happen anytime soon. It does have the potential to occur at WrestleMania 40, but for now, we’ll have to wait and see if WWE continues the storyline between Reigns and Rhodes. Stay tuned for further updates on Roman Reigns and The Bloodline.
