Ilja Dragunov beats Carmelo Hayes at NXT Halloween Havoc
Night two of NXT Halloween Havoc showcased the highly anticipated third battle between Ilja Dragunov and Carmelo Hayes. Although Hayes had previously defended the NXT Championship against Dragunov twice, this time it was Dragunov who entered the ring as the reigning champion.
The highly anticipated title match showcased a clash of styles as The Mad Dragon relied on his physical prowess while Hayes dazzled the fans with his fast-paced and high-flying offense. In the climax, Hayes tactically reverses Dragunov’s top rope H-Bomb with a Codebreaker.
However, Hayes climbed the turnbuckle, and his ally Trick Williams appeared on the entrance ramp with an angry expression. Carmello Hayes was distracted by Williams’ presence, allowing Dragunov to execute a superplex on him. Dragunov then finished the match with his signature move, Torpedo Moscow, thus retaining his “NXT” Championship title.
After the match, Williams went over to Hayes and kindly assisted him in standing up. However, before Williams could say anything to Hayes, the camera abruptly shifted to the backstage area, where Baron Corbin was shouting at Dragunov, who was lying on the ground.
