Kevin Durant went on to form a part of a formidable Golden State Warriors team alongside Klay Thompson, Stephen Curry, and Draymond Green between 2016 and 2019. Kevin made a significant impact with the Warriors to earn great love from the fans.
Now playing for the Phoenix Suns, KD is already excited about starting his 16th NBA season. The prolific scorer recently reflected on his time with the Warriors envisaging the Phoenix Suns visit to the Warriors, amid the start of the 2023/2024 regular NBA season.
KD opens up about playing in front of Warriors fans again
KD and the Suns will open the 2023-24 regular season on Tuesday night against the Golden State Warriors, marking Kelvin Durant’s first game in front of Warriors fans since he left after the 2018-19 season. With the matchup on the horizon, Kevin Durant reflected on playing at Chase Center on Tuesday in front of Warriors fans at home for the first time since 2019.
KD said, “I can’t tell you right now how it’ll be, but when you look up and see all the people that I played in front of that long and you realize the memories you had in those colors? We’ll see what happens. I always reflect on my time there and at each stop that I played in and try to implement it in some form or fashion into the new situation. It was a great experience playing for the Warriors.”
Durant has only played one game in San Francisco since joining the Brooklyn Nets via a sign-and-trade deal in the summer of 2019. The game originally ended in a 134-117 victory for the Nets. Durant contributed 20 points, six assists, and five rebounds to that win.
Unfortunately, KD missed an opportunity to play against the Dubs last season due to an ankle injury sustained during pregame warmups on March 8, right before what would have been his home opener with the Phoenix Suns. This season, Durant is super excited about this opportunity.
How many NBA rings does Kevin Durant have with Warriors?
Durant lifted the NBA championship last with the Warriors, alongside Curry, Thompson, and Green. Kevin Durant’s time with the franchise saw him win two consecutive NBA championships and also claim the Finals MVP on both occasions respectively.
After the NBA Finals loss to the Toronto Raptors, Durant made the move to the Brooklyn Nets, joining forces with Kyrie Irving and James Harden. They became the top offensive team in the league, but the trio were in a bad state of health as Durant, Irving, and Harden all faced significant time off due to injuries. The following season, the Brooklyn Nets had a tumultuous ride, mainly due to Irving’s vaccine stance.
Durant’s recent stint with the Suns saw him limited to just eight regular-season games last season. Although he put up an impressive performance in the playoffs alongside Devin Booker, they fell short against the eventual NBA champions, the Denver Nuggets.
However, with Durant entering the 2023/24 season healthy, plus the addition of Bradley Beal, a deeper bench, and defensive-minded coach Frank Vogel, it could be a championship year for the Suns.
