The New York Jets may not have had high expectations for their inexperienced starter, Zach Wilson, based on his previous performance. This led them to consider finding a solution by getting Aaron Rodgers. However, Rodgers’ season-ending injury created an opportunity for Wilson to step in as the starter. He seemed to be finding his rhythm and led the Jets to three consecutive victories.
The winning streak unexpectedly came to a halt in Week 9 and lasted for three consecutive weeks. The Jets’ performance was extremely disappointing for them, even more so than their loss. This was particularly evident in Wilson’s game, which probably caused their coach to lose all hope and expectations in their starting quarterback.
Zach Wilson takes a tumble
The Jets, led by Wilson, had another disappointing night as they lost to the Buffalo Bills with a score of 32-6. Throughout the entire night, Robert Saleh’s offense performed so poorly that it could easily be considered the worst offense in the league. They were unable to score a single point until just before halftime in the game.
Zach’s performance in the game left the team’s fans feeling disheartened. He seemed to be struggling to connect with his receivers, which was frustrating to watch. In order to maintain their chances of making it to the playoffs, it was crucial for them to win the game. A victory would have brought their win-loss record back to an even 500.
While his play failed to entertain his fans, they found their own source of entertainment in one sudden event. The backup quarterback for Aaron Rodgers was seen running onto the field, stripping over his own feet, and slipping backward to the ground.
It was unfortunate, especially for the starter, as he was struggling with his performance. However, NFL fans could not resist bursting into laughter and making a plethora of jokes, as his performance also witnessed a downfall during the whole night.
Robert Saleh declines to name Week 12 starting QB after Wilson snub
Rodgers’s season-ending injury left his team in a bewildering situation and Saleh had no other way to return the offensive roster that offered them a struggling season last year. Zach Wilson got another chance, and he grasped it by taking hold of a sound victory in Week 1. Since then, whatever he performed was a little consideration for Saleh, as the coach has been patient with him in the hope that Zach would turn things around.
However, Saleh evidently could not survive more as a fan of the former BYU standout, benching the starter for Tim Boyle when the score was 29-6, per Bleacher Report. Though in the past many NFL legends, including Troy Aikman, prioritized the Jets to reconsider their situation regarding Wilson, Saleh was adamant and kept Zach as their first-string quarterback.
Before leaving the game, the Jets player tossed seven completions out of 15 attempts for 81 yards, a touchdown, and an interception. Saleh exchanged his views on Wilson’s plays following the game, saying it was not his usual play.
“Like I said, it was 29-6, and like I said, like I told Zach on the sidelines, it’s not just him,” Saleh said.
While Saleh expressed his confidence in his quarterback’s skills, the coach did not make any definite statements about Wilson’s role in the upcoming game.
“We are going to watch the tape and we’ll make a decision (Monday). We’ll look at all of it. I’m not really answering those questions yet.”
With the defeat, the Jets were demoted to 4-6, falling into the third position in their division. In Week 12, they are set to play their division rival Miami Dolphins on Friday.
